Overview

Under the umbrella of GENIUS Remaja and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Impian Remaja is a community initiative focused on supporting underprivileged youth in Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) communities. The initiative aims to create a more collaborative and inclusive society where young people have equal access to education and opportunities to build a better future.

Impian Remaja approached Wayarless to design and develop its digital platform, working alongside an established internal administration team and a dedicated designer. With the visual direction and designs already defined, our role was to bring the approved designs to life through a functional, responsive and well-structured website with a strong focus on accurately translating the design into a polished digital experience.

The Challenge

As a project under Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Impian Remaja operates within the university's established processes, governance and digital infrastructure. While this provides the project with the backing of a larger institution, it also means that decisions, approvals and technical changes often have to follow UKM's existing hierarchy and involve the relevant university personnel.

One of the key requirements was for Impian Remaja's digital presence to remain under the existing ukm.my domain rather than operate as an independent website. This introduced additional considerations around domain management, hosting and integration with the wider UKM digital ecosystem.

For Wayarless, this meant we could not simply develop directly within the final environment. The website had to be developed separately and subsequently integrated into the existing UKM infrastructure. The transition needed to be carefully planned and executed to ensure the new website worked seamlessly within its parent environment, while minimizing unnecessary rounds of coordination and approval.

The challenge was therefore not just building the website itself, but delivering a standalone digital experience while working within the technical, organisational and governance constraints of a large institution.

The Approach

Wayarless worked closely with the Impian Remaja project team, particularly the person responsible for marketing and the website, alongside the external designer appointed for the project. With the overall visual direction already established, the design process was straightforward, allowing us to focus on translating the approved designs into a responsive and functional website.

Beyond development, Wayarless maintained close communication with the project team throughout content loading, testing and deployment. This was especially important given the additional coordination required to work within UKM's existing digital infrastructure.

By keeping communication clear and the development process structured, we were able to navigate the various dependencies and approval processes without unnecessary delays. Despite the constraints of working within a larger institutional ecosystem, the project was delivered on time and to a high standard, with the final website closely reflecting the intended design and providing a reliable digital platform for Impian Remaja.

The Outcome

Wayarless successfully delivered a polished, responsive website that brings Impian Remaja's vision and identity to life while remaining seamlessly integrated within the wider UKM digital ecosystem.

Despite working within an established domain, infrastructure and approval framework, the project was delivered on schedule and with minimal disruption to the project team's workflow. The final website closely follows the approved visual direction while providing a clear and accessible platform for Impian Remaja to share its initiatives, reach its audience and communicate its mission.

More importantly, the project demonstrates that working within institutional constraints does not have to mean compromising on quality. Through close collaboration, structured execution and careful integration, Wayarless was able to deliver a website that feels like a natural extension of UKM while giving Impian Remaja a digital presence of its own.
